Snow falls just in time for the 2011 NZ World Heli Challenge
After a dry start to the season, NZ was hammered by a huge storm prior to the World Heli Challenge that kick started the 2011 NZ snow season. I arrived here on the 18th of July and have had an awesome week riding Trebel Cone. I am greatful to have arrived early as flights in and out of the South Island have been cancelled and in chaos due to snow and freezing conditions the last few days which has made it hard for competitors, organisers and friends to get in. There are another 2 storms in the forecast before we are planning to run the competition so it should set up to be a fun couple of days!! At this stage we are possibly going to fly any day from Saturday.
We had a media launch day on Sunday on the lake shore of Wanaka. A beautiful background, made even more spectacular by snow falling at lake level and 2 helicopters landing near the main street. There were a few of us competitors there to meet some kids and sign some posters for them....fun!! Anyway I'll keep you posted when we are going to fly!!!
